今回は、秋田県で計画されるAIデータセンタの新聞記事を参考に記事を書いてみました。

The Nikkei recently reported that a large AI data center is now being planned in Akita City, northern Japan.

Japanese and US companies are working on the project, and investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is also being considered. The total cost could reach around ¥2 trillion, which would make it one of the largest AI data centers in Japan.

Why was Akita chosen?
One important reason is energy. AI data centers use huge amounts of electricity. The project plans to take advantage of electricity from offshore wind in Akita. In other words, Akita may combine two important industries of the future: renewable energy and AI.

This project is more than just a local investment. AI has become one of the most important areas of national policy. Governments around the world are investing heavily in AI because they believe it will transform businesses and industries. Japan also needs to make large investments to remain competitive in this new age.

AI investment could also have a much wider economic effect. Building data centers requires construction, electricity, computers, and many other products and services. If AI-related industries grow around these facilities, they could create new jobs and business opportunities.
Japan has struggled with sluggish economic growth for many years. AI may not solve all of its problems, but it could become a powerful new engine for growth.

The Akita project shows an interesting possibility: Japan’s future growth may come not only from Tokyo, but also from regions with abundant energy and new technology.

【注釈：個人的感想なので解釈が間違っている可能性もあります。】
※1 無生物 ＋report（say, show exc.) that
無生物主語を使った表現は英語らしい表現なので、日頃から意識して使うように心がけています。もちろん”according to （報道、記事…）” は定番表現です。

進行形の受動態表現です。昔受けていたTOEICのリス二ングにも良く出てきたのを思い出しました。
※3 working on
取り組むという意味の句動詞（Phrasal Verb）です。句動詞は発信英語（特に会話）で頻出なので、積極的に使うようにしています。なお、取り組むという意味ではtackleが一般的ですが、「難題に取り組む」というニュアンスなので、この文脈にはやや合わないかなと思います。

こちらも句動詞（Phrasal Verbs）です。良い意味でも悪い意味でも使える便利な表現です。なお、useやutilizeを使っても文脈的には変わらないと思います。
※5 renewable energy
「再生可能エネルギー」で今や必須語です。
※6 invest heavily in
invest（投資する）は前置詞 in とセットになります。また、(investは）コロケーションとしてheavilyを伴います。最近私が取り組んでいる発信型英語の強化では、❶無生物主語、❷句動詞、❸コロケーションの3つを意識しています。
※7 struggle with
「取り組む、苦労する」という意味の句動詞です。deal withやcope withも近い意味だとは思いますが、「頑張っているけどうまくいかない状況」を示すためにstruggle withを使っています。
※8 sluggish economic growth
「低成長」という意味で、sluggishの代わりにslowやweakも使えると思います。
※9 not only A but also B
「AだけでなくBも」という意味で、よく登場する構文です。
