One of the books I am currently reading is a mathematics textbook written for university students. It has more than 1,000 pages and weighs over two kilograms!

When I first picked it up again recently, I could not help but think that it feels less like a book and more like a blunt instrument. If I were to drop it from a certain height, it could probably cause serious damage.

I originally purchased this massive textbook during my MBA program, although it was not a required text. I still remember being impressed by its clarity. The explanations were supported by numerous concrete examples. Each concept was carefully illustrated step by step, and the book included many colorful diagrams and graphs. Rather than presenting formulas in an abstract and intimidating way, the authors connected mathematics to real-world applications. That approach left a strong impression on me.

Unfortunately, the cost of studying abroad has skyrocketed in recent years. Tuition fees, living expenses, and even travel costs have increased significantly. For many young people who wish to pursue a degree overseas, it may seem financially out of reach. However, one important fact remains: the textbooks used at universities in the United States and other countries are easily available at relatively affordable prices. By purchasing and studying these books in Japan, students can access the same high-quality academic content at a fraction of the cost of studying abroad.

Of course, textbooks alone cannot fully replace the experience of living and studying in another country. Nevertheless, they provide a valuable gateway to global knowledge. I sincerely hope that young people will take advantage of these opportunities. With discipline and curiosity, they can learn advanced subjects using world-class materials without leaving home.
